Yes Tim its always a shame when a firm goes under - another load of people out of a job - apparantly the workshop & the training division were doing o.k it was the crane and haulage parts that let the side down :(

Sad news, I was speaking to a local crane driver, he wanted £1000 a day for his 80 tonne crane and the contractor was only willing to pay £250, he said he might as well starve at home than drive 40 miles to the site and starve there. I wonder how many of those cranes will be painted yellow and navy.

Its going to be a tough year , existing projects ending with nothing coming on stream , and firms running out of their reserves of cash built up in the good times.

Hello Craig.
There is not much around, the M4 project is nearly finnished, the bypass near us is well on.As you say, nothing new starting up.Our roads are knackered after the snow.Lots of holes. The local councils have run out of cash. :dizzy:

Big problem is if you do the job cut price they still dont pay up and your worst off after funding it for them with fuel etc then chasing money. :arrrrgh:

I had problems getting subbies to come and finish jobs off as QS;s were so far behind paying them and that was in the better times. (that was at a big Top 10 contractor).

Hi Martyn

Yes very little on round here as at least 4 big shopping centre schemes mothballled in Yorkshire & loads of Flats projects abandoned. Only things still going are a few schools and small medical centres, both of these roll out programes are running out of money after overspending on earlier projects. Roads the M1 widening nearly done, and only the A1 >A1M scheme in North Yorks if any size on the go that i know of. 2 huge lesiure related projects have been on and off for last 10 and 15 years, and will not start till the money men have run out of good projects to chase. The huge Housing and busines park scheme for the former Orgreave OCCS site will take 20 years to build if it gets started. it will be built in bits and piecs.

Dave.
