In the 1970's a local crane hirer ran a 4 axle 60 ton lifting capacity telescopic Smith Pinguely mobile crane,some sort of venture between Thos Smith and the French manufacturer Pinguely.I only saw this crane a few times and it had a square cab not unlike the Foden crane carriers.If any member has any pics or info about these cranes I would be grateful. Re that crane with odd attachment.
I have seen a similar arrangement in the past. That style of thing was also used on your English canal system maintenance to prevent the grab going thru the clay liner. I think (pretty sure) that crane is a Coles, Coles Crane Man would probably know better than me.

Spotted on Willington Quay Tyneside last week , Smith truck crane with that Motor Panels cab stuck on front.
