Can any one tell me the make of this tower crane please? Loads around in the late 60's and the 70's!

I would say that is a Babcock & Wilcox crane ( i was lucky enough to pick up a sales brochure for one of these a couple of years ago) i think that they later on became Richier which was to become BPR which in turn was purchased by Potain, I actually saw one working on a job in Dawlish back in 1990.

Thank you Top Kit, you are the knowledge of tower cranes! The other ones you saw at that time were early Wolfs and the one where the front of the cab opened to get in. I think you have posted a picture of that one on here before but can't find it!

Yep the ones where the front of the cab opens to allow the operator to get in are Potain 646 and 746's, there were early Wolf tower cranes and also Linden had some in the UK (now Linden Comansa)
i can remember seeing them on a job in East Grinstead they were hired by Longley's from a company called Ferry Iron works but i have drawn a blank on details of where that company came from, The Linden had an unusual jib which was upside down compared to other tower crane jibs, ther are a few pictures on the cranesetc website and there are a couple of pictures of a linden on here in a fairly recent post i think in workplace job reports, i will try and find it and let you know.

Found it go to the Heavy haulage section then classic pictures which should be the first subtitle then go to page 180 that is a Linden, the taller cranes had a wider mast section that changed to a narrower one half way up as in the picture enjoy.
