Classic Cranes

Post #1 by Jeremy Rowland » Sat Mar 20, 2021 9:06 pm

Here's a couple of classic cranes I stumbled upon today whilst getting some walking action; the one under the cover has a plate on the boom which I have examined and think it says Jones KL44 Crane, the other looks like an old Coles crane, can anybody identify it? Interesting anchor propped up against the side of the building as well.

Wouldn't spend too long in that loo knowing what was leaning on the outside wall.
If a LandRover doesn't leak oil, it's run out.

Can you imagine the HP to lift that anchor plus the length of chain . The one under cover looks like work in progress, the other one looks as though It's still employed.
Norm.

Also, make sure you you pull the small chain and not the big one!

All three photos are Neals Truck mounted cranes from around 1959.
They are original factory photos.
They were all made in the Grantham factory
Of course Neals became Coles .
Can someone tell me what make the trucks are. I think the last may be a Magirus Deutz, but I am not
knowledgeable about road vehicles.
If anyone wants to share the photos please credit the Malcolm Knapp Archive.

Nice photos Paul  I think the top one looks very much like a Foden chassis to me but I am not sure about the others.

Foden did rather like the "squared off" shaped cab. There are dozens of different crane photos but most have no descriptions.

Last two are Thornycrofts the last being a 1950s Trusty, unusual.
The middle one appears to have the front grille of the Amazon mounted on a cab that was also fitted to the Mk1 Antar tank transporters a la Dinky.
First one does look Foden especially front hub caps.
Keep them coming :D
