Problem :
Neighbours Fiat 450 DT suddenly went on to full right lock.
I stripped down the steering ram and found a broken circlip holding the spring pack in place that locates the ram valve gear.
I replaced the circlip and all other seals, and reassembled the ram according to the parts layout in the spare parts manual, refitted to the tractor.
There is an assembly adjustment that needs to be made so the the control valve is in the correct position for normal operation. Unfortunately the local agent no longer has a work shop manual for these tractors ( lent - not returned
) Questions:
Is anyone able to provide the correct assembly sequence for the steering valve control unit, just in case my interpretation of the parts manual is incorrect, and the correct setup for the valve location adjustment?
I have attached a photo of the ram - it is possible that the same ram may be fitted to different makes/models of tractors.
