Asbestos sheets

Post #1 by Davidrg » Sun Sep 16, 2012 1:08 am

I have a International B414 that I am reworking. The engine has a plate boled to it that the air filter and battery box attach to. Between the plate and the engine is a series of asbestos sheets that have deteriorated. The parts manual simply lists them as "asbestos sheets". Does anyone know if theses can still be obtained or if there is a suitable replacement product available?

something that might work is cement based sheets. builders merchants stock them. they are 8'x4' not dear.

I considered the cement sheets and a non cemement alternative. I dont know if they would work even if I could prevent them from crumbling. I find it hard to believe as long ago as asberstos use was curtailed that we havent gotten a replacement yet.
