Ploughing man's land.

The following is a video I made this week of some ploughing near to me. Only a couple of miles from where the plough was made.

What had been grown before and how do they stop it baking out like concrete?

It was wheat last year but not planted in the Autumn. When ground like this is wet you have just got to keep off it and spring crops usually aren't worth the gamble. When it's dry enough to plant it it's usually too late. They're not bothered about it setting like concrete. The weather will have broken it down in time for planting this Autumn. One thing you don't do with this ground is try and force a seedbed with power harrrows & things. The weather is the best cultivator. But everything else has got to be right as well. Lime, soil structure, etc. It was Flat-lifted last Autumn and moled a few weeks ago.
