The Ivel number 131 is belived to be the oldest working tractor in the world. It was built in 1903 and called a Agricultural Motor as the word tractor was not used then. It was used as a works demonstration model after being exhibited at The Royal Show. Its owner is John Moffitt who must have spent a lot of time and effort on this machine, its a real gem.

Hi, Yes, A0 385 is something of a celebrity !
What amazed me was the simplicity of design of it's two speed 'gearbox', one forward, one reverse.
One (I can't remember which) uses gears between the drive and the driven shaft (the large gear is just below the "The Ivel" lettering on the coolant tank), the other uses a 'belt' and is to the left of the large gear and the same diameter. These are both clearly visible in your second picture.

I'm going on memory here...didn't Ivel build a car in the last century?
I think I remember a neighbour saying that name ,& telling me it is a RARE beast...

Hi Micko. Great pictures of the details there.

IIRC it went from Lands End to John o Groats and raised £300,000 for charity.

Heres one of it working at Little Casterton this year,

John - I thought it was only single speed F or R only ?

A 2 speed was built as a prototype only - a black and white photo appeared in the Old Tractor Magazine sample issue in 2003, that is belied to be a bigger Ivel.

Jim according to above article yes he did build a car, and original was a bicycle builder.

He died in 1906 after developing his tractor in 1902.

Apparently 7 Ivel tractor exist ! (according to wikipedia article)
