what do you think of the turbo-compound engine?

:D Hi Richard , didnt have long with this unit, it certainly performed well the short time we had it on our patch. The second customer who runs an older unit was well impressed with the power delivery and fuel consumption, though he only had it for a day.
It will be interesting to see how the engine performs this harvest in a CR9090 we have just retailed, a quoted 5% fuel saving at 2100 rpm, and the extra hp.Not sure what this is for the 9090, but an extra 12 hp for the Quaddy 485 and a quoted 3% fuel saving.
Will be interesting if we have a 9000 series on demo this season, this utilises the compound engine. The Steiger tractors for 2009 also have the new DieselSaver auto productivity management APM system which they say can reduce fuel costs by 25%. Have not discovered what this involves, and if it is fitted to the 9000 series.

For anyone not knowing the compound engine system, it basically has an additional turbine mounted after the turbo. This additional turbine extracts energy from the engine exhaust and returns it to the crankshaft, just like that. The engine units also weigh less and take up less space than the engine it replaces.

yes, i heard they were bringing out something, in very basic terms it seems it turns in to an auto-box and shifts to the optimal power -vs- fuel setting
