New toy

Not been a popular move at home but it kind of followed me home.

Eh, oh. Not that one, this one.

Looks better in the right setting.

Basically sound, very little rust considering others I've seen, just lots of little fettling jobs and tinkering to do. Let the fun begin.

You can never go far wrong with a new big boys toy  I guess it must be a man thing  Must confess I've had to put the brakes on and not buy anymore for myself, tis a bad but fun habit to get into.

Nice toy :claphands:

Very nice! That's the size of tractor we should have rather than the MF 65, which is just about the wrong everything for what is needed down here in Kent!
CMN Stuff: MF65, Thwaites Nimline, JCB 3CX
Projects: S11a 88" V8 Hybrid, 2 x S111 109"s, Mk11 Mini, Harrison L5A
Ish projects: T25 Camper, ST675R
Just added: Alpine S5 & Bridgeport Mk2 :wtf:
Sorely Missed: Impreza, E39 M5

Thanks, I won't tell you I found it in Kent then.

It's a 1978 build with a 8 speed box. Never seen an 8 speed before, always 6 or 12mp. I'm told the 8 speed is very slow but maybe the 32" wheels will make up for that (not got it out on the road yet!!!). I like the single door as it was one of 'the' features of the 500 series - not to everyone's taste though. I don't have much of it's history but appears to have always been a southerner having been supplied by Culverwell in Sussex with a Brighton reg code, and I acquired it near Tonbridge.

There were less than 6,000 made, so take out the exported, scrapped and broken ones, I wonder how many survive?
What it did in it's previous lives is a bit of a mystery as all the nooks and crannies seem to have chalk deposits. There is evidence of bracketry in both wheel arches and a largish chunk of box section welded into the cab possibly to hold a spool lever block perhaps. All quickly sorted.
Main issues are a hopefully minor problem with the hydraulics but doesn't stop it being used, the fan and heater matrix are clogged with chalk and will have to be removed and cleaned, and the rear plastic grill at the back of the cab is broken. I won't bore you with the full list of jobs as I've not taken photos of what I've done so it would just be a lot of reading (unless you really want to!).

Hopefully I'll remember to take more pics as I get to play with it.

Bloody hell! You were right near my weekend hideaway, as Tonbridge is about 5 miles away! Didn't know we had a tractor emporium that close, I only know a couple one the Tonbridge side of Maidstone, the others all out Ashford way
