Hi - having recently found an old TM55 in a barn that had been there for 35 years without moving, a friend and I decided to purchase it and restore it. All the tinware is very good, as is the engine and tracks. It has the usual gearbox problems and we suspect at minimum Layshaft bearings given the noise it makes from the box when started. My question for the time being is: are Crawfords the only place for spares or do any forum members have any gearbox parts available second hand?? For the amount of use it will get we are only really interested in getting the gearbox sorted, getting it repainted, greasing the track rollers up etc, etc. Engine is good and spun up pretty much first time with a fresh battery and fuel (after 35 years sat in a Dutch barn). The hour meter reads just over 3200 hrs and we at present believe this genuine. It was laid up in 1980 due to gearbox problems (no surprises)
I've no doubt this thread will evolve organically over the next few months as things manifest themselves, but got to start somewhere. One other question for the time being is do the top track idlers have a separate grease nipple or are they pre-packed?? We believe it is a later model 55 with the 5 bottom track rollers as per understood through trawling the net/this forum.
Cheers,
Stuart .

Re: Track marshall 55 restoration
Welcome to the Forum Stuart. Good old tubs they were but if 3200 hours is correct it's hardly run in. Might even be a bit of warranty left on it.
Good luck - David.

Re: Track marshall 55 restoration
New bearings can be obtained for bearing suppliers, as pattern from original measurements or numbers taken off the bearings.I have stripped down machines and got replacements that way no problem and at reasonable cost
