They may be locally sourced as machines going to Oz were shipped without tyres to reduce contamination risks - perhaps many went without wheels as well?
If a LandRover doesn't leak oil, it's run out.

Not sure about the Daganham era but Fords from Basildon were shipped to some markets with sort of makeshift wooden wheels.

That's how I remember many Countys leaving Fleet for Southampton docks - they had rims with planks strapped crossways (cable drum style) around them so they were drivable. I guess the planks were removed and burnt on arrival.

A bit late here, but it was said fordsons, power major onwards at least, the back end could handle 120 hp. They probably wear more though, judging by the 6D engine my ol' man fitted, but I couldn't know if it was always full of oil or not.
