SVR Diesel Day 2014

Post #1 by Jeremy Rowland » Fri Oct 03, 2014 10:44 pm

This event for all diesel loco fans is actually held from the Thursday (2nd Oct) through to Saturday the 4th; I usually go on the Thursday to try and avoid the crowds but these events are gaining popularity and I thought this years event was a lot more crowded with far more visitors.

During these events on the Severn Valley Railway all steam hauled trains are suspended with preserved diesel loco's hauling all trains; you can generally get two trips up the full length of the track from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster during the day, each way is around 16 miles, you just have enough time for some lunch and a quick look around at the stations at each end.

A couple of friends came along; two of us took the early DMU from Bridgnorth and met up at Bewdley with our other friend, we got up and down the track twice behind a variety of loco's including class 50 50026 Indomitable and 55019 Royal Highland Fusilier one of the famous Deltic loco's powered by two stroke engines. The Deltic's don't half howl and going through the small tunnel that lies between Bewdley and Kidderminster the driver opened her up; it sounded awesome!
There was of course two class 52 Western diesel hydraulics also in operation on the day and a class 37 and a 40.

Not a bad day out if you fancy something different!

Hmm, lets see... First carriage, 2 Napiers at full chat, in a tunnel.
Nope, doesn't get much better than that!
If a LandRover doesn't leak oil, it's run out.

Hope to be reunited with D1062 Western Courier 40 years since I last worked on it.

The V12 Mabach MD655 is the best sounding diesel engine ever built  And D1062 has two fitted
