Travelling around I get used to some odd h&s requests like wearing hivis indoors in case of power cut, or eye protection in an office that no-one on site could explain but I think I've found the best yet...
Visiting a 'large national company', I was dropping off a small box when I was stopped in my tracks by the yard foreman.
What are you doing?
I've got a delivery for you.
We have h&s requirements.
Err.. Ok (already wearing hiVis and safety shoes)
Are you getting into your vehicle?
What?
DO YOU NEED TO GET INTO YOUR VEHICLE?
Well, if you want your parcel, yes.
Then you need to wear a hard hat.
Eh?
Our h&s requires you wear a hard hat if you need to enter the back of your vehicle.
OooKayy.. (now checking watch for date!)
And it has to be one of ours! (which didn't fit).
If it'd been their van and Escort size I might have understood a bit but how - at 5'10 - I could possibly connect with the top of my own high roof sprinter I have no idea.
Sorry, rant over.
You want me to wear what???

Half of this is because companies are terrified that if somebody has an accident then they are to blame and will get taken to the cleaners in court; sad thing is this is NOT really about anybody's Health and Safety its all about who gets sued when things go wrong; it also as demonstrated here makes a mockery of H & S what a shame common sense does not apply.

Re: You want me to wear what???
Too right John , we delivered a 340 Doosan into a job yesterday in a water treatment plant. Got everything there, hi-vis, banksman, a pit to unload in in case of any spillage........the only thing they didn't have was room to turn the lorry round!!!!! After a million shunts the banksman said "dunno how you drivers do this job!"......."well its not made any easier by the brains running your operation!"
(we are the lowly scumbag lorry drivers who are supposed to be thick as sh*t!)
