You wont know 'till you give it a go. If all else fails you'll get a job back somewhere. As the others have said, getting paid is the most important thing. All the self employed fitters/mechanics around here are flat out, no-one wants full time spanner men these days 'cos good ones are expensive, but they do want an instant fix when there's a problem! The trouble is they tend to forget how you saved the day once the machine is fixed and the urgency to pay dwindles once the thing is running! (tc will probably testify to that)
If you can afford to run for a couple of months just in case then give it a go. Peversly, I reckon you've got more job security working for yourself, at least you know whats going on and not like some of these firms who you think are alright then just go POP with no notice and you're on your own anyway!

Totally agree a permanent job means the jobs permanent,not you!If your self employed you expect ups n downs,but if your up to much,word of mouth will be your best advert!Been self employed,but as machine driver last 5 years,wish I'd done it earlier!
