Oddball

Post #1 by andrew campbell » Fri May 02, 2008 5:07 pm

Couple of pictures of a fully working and walking Bucyrus Erie 1250B, made by Neville Wilkinson of Halifax. Neville had also on display his Rapier W2000, my camera batteries ran out after only two shots so no pictures of the new model.

These photos were taken at the St Aidans open cast coal site at Swillington near Leeds. This is the site where the near by river broke its banks and flooded the mine. It remained flooded for ten years before the river could be diverted and work restart.

There are three open days a year for the preserved dragline and it really is worth a visit. Kids are welcome and there is a cabin with photos and information about the mine. For anyone who has not been it is a chance to walk around inside, sit in the drivers seat and walk down the jib.

The next open day is Sat 14/06/08 and then Sat/Sun 13th and 14/09/08 between 2pm-4pm
