I bought this model cheap a while back and thought I would set at it and do a custom job. I had some plans as to what I wanted to do and the rest just fell into place!. I had some snaggs with the wiring for the lights and a few test and adjust moments.
Here's a brief list of what I have done.
Dropped the cab right down, re-done all the handrails in 1/32 brass rod, added hydraulic pipes and hoses, cut up the highrise cab walkway and mounted it on the roof of the cab for some rougue rock protection & added the LED head lights and amber flashing light.
This was my 1st attepmt at this kind of thing and I learned a lot along the way especially the brass soldering and working with LED's. Now, my brass soldering and shaping for the handrails still has far to come, but I am pretty proud of myself for my 1st ever attempt!
Anyway, the pics.
So, from this the original:
To this, quite a transformation
Switch for the lights
Let there be light 8)
Flashing light
I hope you like what I have done, I would also welcome any constructive criticism if you can see anything I could have done better.
I have a few work in progress pics and a small video of the lights in motion too if anyones interested.

That would be good to see.
For such a cheap model the detail on it is pretty good, metal tracks and even hydraulics on the bucket, not even some of the top end NZG models have that!

Re: My custom JOAL Komatsu PC1100
thats why I chose to basically rebuild my 996 mate, when it sat next to my 9350, 994F and even the smaller WSI Hitachi it looked nowhere near as good so its gettin brought up to (hopefully!) the same standard, and slightly weathered I'll need to get more pics into my thread. You planning any other customisations?

Re: My custom JOAL Komatsu PC1100
Ive just posted up a JOAL Komatsu WA900 Im doing. Early days yet.
Ive got the NZG CAT 5130B face shovel and the detail on that is pretty poor. I will have a look for your 996 thread.

Re: My custom JOAL Komatsu PC1100
Cheers jack, thanks for the welcome.
Here are a few of the work in progress pics.
I ground off the moulded on hydraulic pipes and made some brass ones.
I dropped the cab, made a basic battery box in the engine compartment and tested the LED's before going in.

Re: My custom JOAL Komatsu PC1100
Cheers all.
I didnt really buy it to custom it, but the more I looked at those horrible plastic handrails I knew something had to be done! I just started off with soldering together some brass handrails and the it escalated.
