Thwaites Digger Dumper Filter part No

Post #1 by bighomer46 » Fri Mar 18, 2011 5:40 pm

Well I am new here so be gentle.
I have recently bought a digger dumper and want to change the hydraulic filter in the oil tank
The part No from the parts schematic is:- T 6047 SUCTION FILTER MP 878
I would like to find a cross referance for this filter.

The reason for changing it is the rams move so slowly, I have changed the hydraulic oil and ordered the main hydraulic filter. And think it would be a good idea to change the suction filter.

Thanks in advance

Hi David, and welcome to CMN.
Have you removed the suction filter?
I ask the question because suction filters are nearly always washable strainers in machines of this type and age. It might look like a throw-away element in the schematic drawing though.

No I have notremoved it as yet.
I should have removed it before filling with fresh oil but......

I will remove it on Monday afternoon and see if it cleanable.

Also I will post some pics of the machine and the filter when removed.

Thanks for the phone number of a supplier of filters.
I live in Brittany so wanted to source one local, I feel it would be a little naughty to ask someone to spend time looking for a suitable filter then not buying from them.

Thanks.

As has previously been suggested, I'd say it was just a strainer with a BSP thread for screwing onto the oil outlet spigot inside the tank. If you think about it you can't really have a 'filter' as such on the outlet because any form of restriction caused by the filter medium will just make the pump cavitate and do it no good long term.

I bet an airline and a pot of kerosene will have it washed out.....

Julian.

I would also like to know if someone has the dimensions for the buckets for this machine,
The one I have fitted does not close enough, So when i lift the boom it is nearly open and I struggle loading my dumper.

Gentlemen,
I have a similar question to the one on this thread so have placed it here rather than clutter the site up with a new thread, I hope this is OK?
I wish to attend to the hydraulic oil filters on my Thwaites Orion dumper, it is a 1977 model.
Please can someone confirm what type of filters it will have?
I am assuming it only has a suction filter in the oil tank(?), would this be a washable re-usable type?
Thank you for your knowledge in advance,
Chris Vince
