Hi I've spent a week trying to start the dumper I get fuel out of the pump when I connect the injector pipe there's fuel coming out the end when I connect the injector nothing.
I've stripped the pump quite a few times had the injector checked that came back ok so still nothing from the injector I've ordered a new AVA1 bryce pump. stationary engine parts £130. India £40 when it arrives I'll let you know what it's like

Now I am no expert with these injectors but when playing with one a few years back I was surprised at how little fuel is pumped out and along the injector line to the injector. So small amount that I stripped tht rack about 6 times and always with the same result. So I had the injector out of the head and connected it to the fuel line and cranked the engine. The fuel atomised beautifully. Reason I am saying this is because the pump/rack does only pump a small amount of fuel at a time.
My best guess is that you have an injector problem and at the nozzle. Cleaning nozzles is a specialised job and now can be done using ultrasonics. Do not be tempted to push anything through the very small holes on the nozzle. I would either take the injector to a repair shop or if you have a pop tester by a new nozzle and fit it and then adjust the pressure so that it pops at the correct setting.

Hi,
I'd put money on the problem being the pump delivery valve .
As has been said the pump only delivers a small amount of fuel at each stroke and the delivery valve is there to maintain pressure in the injector line and keep the line and injector fully charged with fuel between pump delivery strokes.
The valve may have something preventing it seating or is the delivery valve spring missing or broken,

The dumper had sat in a field since the 70s the front wheels were buried to the axle and were rotten when I got it the farmer told me it didn't start and was put in the field until he got the time to look at it so I knew it had a fuel problem when I stripped the pump down the arm that goes through the pump is sticky and stiff I've tried to free it up with a little success inside the pump was gummed up so I left it in diesel for weeks when I built it up and refitted it l could get fuel out of the pipe l put my finger over the end the pressure never built up so I thought it might be the pump the pump arrived today from India so I'm on it tomorrow it looks ok the casting is a bit rough the arm moves freely fingers crossed

Quick update I've been trying to get the dumper running for a while I have fuel to the injector (had this checked was told it's ok) fuel doesn't come out in a spray more like a jet I've been trying to get the cooling fin off with no success if I can get it off I'll replace the nozzle anyone know how to get it off? regards vince

Hi Vince,
Who or how was the fuel system checked and what were the pressures?
To my understanding nozzles are screwed on but then the injector MUSS be set again correctly on a pop off gauge or similar. So unless you have all the tools to do the job hand it across the counter at your local fuel injection shop.
To say it squirts and not atomises sounds like it is either a damaged nozzle or wrong pressure. Need more accurate info to be able to give you the best replies as you can end up spending money on parts that may not need replacing.

Thanks Cobb's it was taken to a garage that deals with diesel engines I'm beginning to think they didn't even look at it
I Looked at the price of a new nozzle £25 so I thought I'd take a look at it.
inside was a pin stuck tight so I got my drill put one end in the vice and the other in the drill a quick squirt of wd40 and started to work the drill it was stuck tight I kept working on it and it came free it was a long pin covered in carbon deposits I then put toothpaste on the pin and worked it in and out of the nozzle until it became silky smooth I cleaned it thoroughly I didn't touch the other end. put it together low and behold 3 fine sprays. put it on the engine and it RUNS at last I'll put the drive belt on tomorrow and drive it for the first time
