At least a voltage regulator is not required to make it start. Off to the wreckers to buy another one.

Is the regulator totally missing or not working?
What brand of alternator / generator is on the dumpy?
What are the colours of the wires?
You will need to know what wire does what. Red usually to + Black to - Brown or yellow to F from memory. I can look this up when required.
Old T Model Fords had a magneto behind the flywheel and that had wires coming out from it.

Let me have a search for the supplier out here. I'm sure there is one somewhere and I'm not sure if it is a company named Minards at coal Point near Newcastle NSW. Do a search for them and make contact. If they dont have the parts they may direct you to someone who does. I bought some hard to get British seagull parts off them years ago and were good to deal with.
As for the blow by you may find that by freeing up the rings you will win. Before stripping try a dose of oil down the injector hole/s. Once running it might free the rings with some heat.

Will try that .. it's just s bit of oil ... It fires on only one cylinder . There is lots of blow by . It has fuel but won't start . Something is just not right . Can get the heads and sump off without removing the engine .so that's a bonus . Ear elephants in thin slices !!!!!
