Thwaites 4x4 petter ph2

Hi I've got a thwaites 4x4 beleaved to be a 2ton dumper it's grinds in first and not very willing on moving but all other gears are good any advice please

Try a clutch adjustment first and see what happens from there. Have you checked the oil levels right through your dumper? Check both diffs and gearbox, maybe even worth while to change the oil and put fresh oil in.

It sounds a bit like clutch problems, grinding into first and problems with movement. And as cobbadog says check oil levels.

Check the gearbox oil. If these old dumpers stand out side it is very easy for moisture to work its way in.

Hi thanks all for messageing under closer investigation the bearings in the gearbox had completely gone but luckily the gears wasnt damaged so i brought a set of bearings from plant services engineering ltd they wasnt the cheapest but i got excatly what i need so all back together and running

Was the old oil in a state or box empty?

Hi pete oil wasnt to cracking it looked like used engine oil

Sounds like you made a good decision to inspect it closer and replace the bearing and then used the correct oil, well done.
