I have a couple of simple plastic thread and bolt sizing gauges that the local supplier was giving away. Remarkably handy. If the dumper is quite old I doubt it would be metric.

Quite possibly it is Whitworth and they have a 55' angle thread, if not then maybe SAE with a 60' thread angle. TPI is the next thing (threads per inch) and this will confirm the thread size when we know the angle.
May be have a Google search for a thread chart online then using a metal rule count the threads over an inch and let us know. I have a set of thread gauges in the shed and they are very helpful in identifying the threads.

Hi all.. I've finally finished the dumper. It's taken about a year and close enough to €2000 but I'm happy enough with the results... il post some pictures soon.... Ronan...

Looks good. I learnt to drive on one of those in about 1970. No where near as nice as yours! Had to rebuild gearbox and steering box all due to water ingress.

I had to do the same with the steering box, it was badly damaged due to water... parts were very expensive for it but working well now... I also fitted a rubber boot from a balljoint under the steering wheel on top of the steering column tubular pipe where the long shaft runs to stop water getting in again... got away with some bearings and seals in the Newage gearbox, they are a very strongly built box and would keep going despite having little oil or water in there....
