Single cylinder petter

Post #1 by sdarmstrong » Mon Jun 03, 2019 1:49 pm

Hi
The excess fuel position has become stuck on my petter engine . As a result it won’t start . I’m guessing Fred knows exactly what’s wrong , so I hope drops by shortly !

Hi David,
I couldn't make sense of your pic. till I realised it was upside down.
You either have the injector pump rack stuck, which you can check easily enough, or more likely the governor control rod is stuck. The governor is operated by a pushrod which goes through the centre of the camshaft linking the governor weights to the arm behind the flywheel which is in turn linked the injector pump rack. This pushrod is prone to stick in the camshaft bore in long service engines.
If you have to strip out the pushrod to clean and free it you will find it is in two parts with a ball bearing between them. there is a short section which will come out easily from the flywheel end after removing the fulcrum arm, (two bolts), without removing the flywheel.
To get the long section out I'm afraid you would have to open up the timing case and remove the governor weights.
I hope you find its something simple, good luck.
Fred

Thanks for that lads . It’s in an awkward spot to get at right now . I will have to get it out from where it is to be able to work on this .... never easy !!

Looks like a good clean up around the linkages on the outside would not hurt either

Would you believe it was working fine until I decided to clean the engine with a paraffin gun ....

Sounds about right to me.
We call that "Murphies Law" if it can go wrong it will but when you do your best to improve something and then have it bite on the bum, that is not fair.
Cheers Cobba
