I have bought an old benford 2 ton dumper. It has an H registration plate. I am wondering what it weighs (kerb weight) for towing purposes as I have to collect it. No other info at the moment.
Also where would i find workshop info so i can get familiar as I am a complete novice with dumpers. It all works allegedly but I would be doing it up anyway to extend its working life hopefully.
Thanks

Re: Old Benford info please
I don't really know the answer but our 1980s Thwaites 2 ton 4wd was too heavy for a 2 ton car trailer in my opinion. Our 3 ton 00s Thwaites is ok on a 3.5ton plant trailer but it requires a vehicle that can legally pull a 3.5 ton trailer.
Had a quick look on line: Modern 2 ton swivel is just over 2 ton. Your machine may not have a swivel skip possibly but I would guess things were more heavily built a while back.
Incidentally H reg 1970 or 1990?

Sorry it's old so 1969 vintage. Don't think its 4WD and certainly not swivel. I have a Mitsi L200 so can tow 3 tons supposedly legally if not for hire or reward.
I do want to know the weight so I can produce that info if required to do so.

Re: Old Benford info please
Ah! A genuine classic. Job to find info but I would have thought that ought to be well under 2 tonnes. it looks more like a 15cwt to a ton capacity size. Towing rules seem to be aa bit of minefield. For instance is it legal to tow a 3.5 ton plated trailer at 3 ton gross with a vehicle permitted to tow 3 ton?
Re: Old Benford info please
So is that the weight of the Dumper itself (kerb weight) is under 2 tonne? That is what I need to know. The capacity is not important although it was sold as a 2 ton dumper.
You can tow a load on a 3.5 ton plated trailer if you do not exceed the GTW of vehicle and load as marked on the vehicle. If you tow an empty trailer plated at 3.5 tones you cannot tow without a 4wd capable of towing 3.5 tons. You can have the trailer downplated to 1.8 tons and tow with a normal car but not if it is marked up at 3.5 tons. You can take the 3.5 ton trailer on a trailer plated at 1.5 tons but you cannot put it on the road without a big 4wd!!
If you are a business towing 3.5 tons you need a tachograph fitted if you go outside 50km radius of your base. There is no tachograph to fit an L200!
I think that is all correct.
Kerb weight is my issue so I know what trailer and dumper weigh together as VOSA are ruthless and will take anything illegal off the road. I am going 600 miles so i need to know.....
Thanks

Re: Old Benford info please
Sorry I meant the dumper unladen ought to be under 2 well under 2 tonnes and the capacity looks like 1 ton or less by the wheels and skip but I might be wrong.
Taking a second look I think the dumper looks like a Thwaites Nimbus which were 15cwt capacity. The weighed in around the 1 ton

Re: Old Benford info please
Perfect thanks. Just need to explore the service items etc now if still available. Hope I can find a number or ID to confirm what model exactly.
Re: Old Benford info please
I have an image of the ID plate. Can any of you guys glean anything from this and point me in right direction for servicing and parts please?
I discovered 40M824 is the gearbox?
I would like to give it a service as doubt it has been loved for a while. Steering is very heavy and rear tyres need changing very soon
