Hi Guys
Trying to put back the Top plunger thing on my lucas Injection pump rack and un-sure which way the Cap thing goes into the spring.I have tried fitting it with the longer side going into the internal of the pump but the spring is making it almost impossible to catch a tread and get it seated.
Unsure now which way it came out
Spring is pictured up-side down.
Thanks any help on this as really unsure now what to do.
Mick

Thanks Fred but this Pump is slightly different. That really did help with the JCB but (I think its called ) a sleeve guide plug (4) has a long treaded allen key bolt on one side but I am sure it fits in the Spring,it's just I do no understand why and thought I may have got them swapped around the wrong way.
Another quick question you will be able to help me with.
I am just removing the Cav pump to take a look at it to see why no fuel is getting to my injectors and give a clean but I cannot shift it off the spline that goes into it.All the connections are off,3 bolts removed, it's loose and turning but will not slide off.
I have tried to slide it with a couple of screw drivers in the gaps, gave it a few gentle taps with a hammer but it will not slide off for love or money.
Could this be my problem with not fuel getting though and the Shaft or somethings broke in side and it's jammed on.
Have you ever had this problem ?
Mick

Hi,
You have a pump with the regulating adjustment for the transfer pump pressure, (see below).
I can't think why you shouldn't be able to withdraw the pump unless it's the type with a tapered shaft keyed and bolted to the timing gear instead of the quill shaft. I know some Ford engines were fitted that way.

That's the one.....thank you for this it confirms I was putting it back correctly although I was hoping I had made a mistake as it could have been my problem with the pump.
Cheers for this Fred.
The engine is a Perkins and I am really at a lost of how to get the pump off.I am pretty sure now there is a problem with the Cav pump now so will have to get it off some how......is it me or do I just have the worst luck with these Pumps.
Thanks again for your time

Thank you Tom
Just removed the water Pump and a Cover.....is tis the Nut you mention. It's a 22mm.
I have not tried yet to remove the Cav pump as it's too dark in the Barn now but how should I proceed now as I do not have a puller and may go your hammer route.
