Seized injector
Seized injector
Hi, I,m new to dumpers, having just acquired a Benford with a Petter ph1engine (I think). It has been left for many years and I have been unable to remove the injector which seems to be rusted in place. Any ideas for getting it out without ruining it? Thanks, Ian

Re: Seized injector
Clean around the injector and spray penatrating oil around where it goes into the head. leave for a while to soak in and try to prise it out.If still tight gave it a little heat with a blow lamp and spray it again. If that don't work, I made up a slide hammer that screws onto the injector feed pipe thread that has worked well on much bigger engines than a Petter, if that dont work you may have to remove the head. The injector is rusted in or has had blowby and carboned up.
Good luck

Re: Seized injector
Hi,
All good advice, but I doubt if a slide hammer will be much good as the leak off pipe connection you would need to use to secure it to the injector has only a 1/4 BSP thread and would probably not take the strain.
I have often been able to move a stuck injector by selecting a heavy suitable sized spanner from the box and using it as a heel bar. Hook the jaw under the injector flange and prize down against the head. A sharp downward tap on the spanner with a hammer will then often do the trick.
Good luck.

Re: Seized injector
Thanks for the advice, I soaked it then tried lifting with a spanner. Then I removed the two studs and tried turning it a little with a stillson wrench. Then tried turning and lifting together and out it came.
Thanks, Ian
