JR, the man with the S.A.400 had 2 of them both with L10 Cummins engines so explain your comments a bit more as the L10 is a Yonks old motor, I can recall working on a TM Bedford 6 wheeler with the 250 L10 poked into it, I thought it was H reg about 1970 build? with the single spring valves, I will get details off this S.A. just to clear the air some (or is it Mind?) I have photos some place that I have posted, but I know the 401 had a bigger windscreen.

TC the easy way to tell em apart is that the 300 series (300, 301 & 311) all have the headlights mounted in the quarter panel, one either side, whereas the 400 and 401 had the headlights in the bumper bar (four).
There were a few later 301's built with four headlights in the bumper but once again the easy way to tell the difference is the later 301, 311, 401 and 411 all had plastic covered front bumpers the 400 series had a steel bumper, also the 300 series was not fitted with a cab step on the bumper because it was shorter in height than the larger 400/401.

There were to my knowledge only two different engines fitted into the 300 series and they were the IH DT466 International engine in the early 300 series and the L10 Cummins in the later 301 and 311 series.
The 400 series was only made until 1981, some very late examples made the old 'X' letter registration plate, the 400 series was fitted with the following motors; Gardner 6LXB, 6LXC, 8LXB, 8LXC, Rolls Royce Eagle Diesel 220, 265L, 290L, 320, Cummins NHC250, NTCE290, NTC335, NT240, that later 401 and 411 sported similar lumps.
