1984 JCB 3CX controls

Post #1 by kda5red » Wed Feb 20, 2013 4:18 pm

Hi all,
i am completely new to all this but am very handy in the workshop. i have just bought an old 3cx for some digging tasks around the farm. the backhoe levers are very sloppy and sometimes holding the same lever in a different place makes the arms do different things. I know this is a fairly major problem but the rest of the machine is A1 so i thought worth a punt. my questions are:
is there a ball joint at the base of each lever?
if so can these be replaced?
if this is not the issue I suspect it is wear in the spool valve assembly !! is it possible to replace all the seals in these or am i looking at a recon or second hand part.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

under the rubber gater there is a bolt 13mm spanner i think. make sure they are in and tight. this bolt changes the levers from X pattern to + pattern.
