Cat D9 IDF military version

Post #1 by MrF » Mon Apr 20, 2009 3:56 pm

Ive just been reading about this, and thought someone here would be interested also:-

israel_idf_d9_bulldozer.jpg

Its a militarized version of the D9, but with cameras and remote control units fitted. It can be operated manned or unmanned, and is adapted to resist RPGs, Sagger ATGMs, AT mines and roadside IED's with the extra armour adding a further 10T to the weight and is used by the Israelis to clear the camouflague and rubble used to hide arms caches, tunnels and IED's. They have also been used to nudge the corners of buildings to disloge martyrs dug in, clear mines and other military duties.
No politics from me about some of its uses , just admiration of a superbly adapted tool.

I bet it's a lot nicer if you hit a landmine if you're operating it using the remote control
