Komatsu PC3000 in action

Post #1 by SRB » Tue Feb 12, 2008 10:44 am

Taken last week, up in Scotland again, PC3000 doing what it does best, 777D haul truck beneath her.

And at the end a PC340 working alongside a 345 cleaning coal off, ready to be hauled out.

Back up north of the Border, a few more pics of the PC3000 in action. Site have just ordered another 2 of these Komatsu/Demag machines, due to be delivered later this year. These new 3000's will be replacing two older Demag H255's which have performed faultlessly.

Great to see these big beasts at work. But just one question, why don't Caterpillar produce these larger excavators as most of the trucks/dozers in quarries are Caterpillar,is there a reason for this?

Excellent photos SRB those PC3000's seem to gaining popularity among the opencast contractors in the UK.
Its a shame Cat pulled out of the large face shovel market, i heard good and bad reports about them and would like to see one working.

Cheers

Cat were too late entering into the big excavator, by the time the 5130 came along, RH120's and the like were established as the industry "norm".
5130's were not too bad but certainly the 5230 was a troubled machine.

Cat dealers can now sell Terex/O&K large excavators - RH40 through to RH400 and the excavators can be spec'd with Cat engines, to support large Cat fleets of haul trucks.
