I never found age had anything to do with it! You wont get on it if you're on the cliff face. Get amongst it and make yourself known. You wont get a go unless you try and try some more!

I've had all sorts, 375's the biggest, which in real terms is not that big, but I had 30 tonners before I was twenty. You can do it if you want it..........you just gotta get friendly and ask!!!!!!

Oh, and as paddy said..........its not the size of the bucket its the size of the cheque that counts!!!!

I agree with that paddy....haha Im tured of driving small machines for small wages! I mean dont get me wrong i love my lil PC130-8 to death but the wages at the end of the week are pretty poor.....Ive had a few chats with the site manager on site and he told me that Halls look for younger ops now.....ive heard theyve got a new site opening after this one finishes so i might go see about getting my name down for the machine work when it kicks up.

Dont rely on just leaving your number Joe. Meet someone, get their direct number and keep ringing. Offer to do a Saturday and show some interest. If you've got a passion for it it'll shine through. Thay could get anybody but its better to hire someone who wants to be there, who is reliable and will look after the kit!

Oh, and to be honest one big hole week after week can also get pretty mundane! If you want my advice dont go bigger than a twenty tonner, you get variety, you move a lot locally and get some scenery............after that they become suitcase machines!!!

I take your advice on board mate....thanks alot! Thing is ever since i saw the PC800 at hillhead and had a look round it ive always known i wanted to be on something that big! I can imagine it being a bit tedious loading trucks all day 6 days a week! Its just something i can turn round to my grandkids and say ive operated some of the biggest (they arent that big i know) excavators in the UK haha!

Cheers

Joe
