I had forgoten the JCB7. Thanks for the reminder.
There were six 7C's in the Cardiff Plant fleet in the late 1960's. I did a few odd jobs on their Perkins engines but they were looked after by my friend and fellow fitter Derick Burnell. His dread was replacing rotary distributor seals, it had to be done from underneath, and in an unavoidable deluge of oil.
I didn't know about a "Hopto Connection" but you can see the simmullarity, "you live and learn."
Heres a photo I found of a JCB7 at work.

I d like to hear more about the JCB7. THere was an old one about 8 or 10 years ago in Corinth MS clearing for a school and a church. It was a nice machine for its age still old enough to have foot pedals for the stick and boom. They cleared about 25 acres with it and a Fan boat and 4430 John Deere wit ha prop on the back.
There also an old Hopto excavator that was barge mounted in Florence Alabama that was brought there in 2001., They bought it already on a barge and scrapped the barge. The machine sat just a house, cab and boom on its turntable. The stick and bucket were laid next to it. It was all painted up. I vent seen it in a year or so hope it missed the scrappers. A bay City truck mounted crane met the torch though. I will be that way in a few days Ill see if I can get a pic.

Warner Swasey made both The Gradall and the Hopto so it's not surprising that the 300 Hydroscopic evolved allong the way.
As you say, I don't think there were many made.

At a mine at Greenbushes in the southwest of western australia in the 80,s they had 2 hopto,s 1900,s i think they were.About 100 tons and had screamin gm motors in them.They were white and blue.
