Re: CAT 5130 question
There were a quite a few 5130 machines sold in the UK. As far as I know only two are left - HALL Construction's parked in Scotland and one at a hard rock quarry in England, still operational. Others were two owned by COBEX Mining, 2 x Bridgetown Mining -later taken on By GM Mining and later sold to a dealer in America, Banks had a couple and I believe HALL also had another which worked in Ayrshire for a while. The machines were by UK mining standards very un-reliable when compared to the Demag and O&K products (many of which are still working in excess of 50,000 hours)

Re: CAT 5130 question
I got told the other day by a cat fitter that came out to my machine that there are still 4 or 5 5130's working in the UK....He said that Banks still have a pair of them in standard excavator configuration still on the original engines....he also said there is one somewhere downsouth in a Quarry. I know that Hall's have one as there is word of it coming down to their job about 10 minutes from where i live. Not sure if this is true but i would like it to be....I asked him about why cat stopped producing them and he gave the reason for them ceasing production to be with that they could not compete with the likes of O&K and Demag.....he also said that Cat at one point actually had a 500 tonne Face Shovel on the drawing board but they were scrapped before a machine could be built....Apparently LaFarge had ordered a 5230 FS for a years demo but cat had already scrapped making them before the demo could be confirmed.

Re: CAT 5130 question
We had a few 5130's working down under and they were always plagued with issues. I don't believe they were a very successful machine for Cat.
They also had a habit of separating - refer picture. There was a quarry just outside of Sydney where the top section literally ended up in the back of a 777 truck!!
It took ages to retrieve the machine because the tyres on the truck looked like they were going to explode from the weight. The area was closed off for days while a safety plan was worked out.

Re: CAT 5130 question
2 left in Uk, Hall's and Tarmac.
At their peak, the UK had the highest population of 5130's (A&B series machines) in the world.
The UK also has the highest population of O&K RH120's in the world with over 100 machines sold into theUK.

I could well believe that about the 120c everyone had them, I thought only a few 5130 made in to this island. Guess you learn something every day.

Re: CAT 5130 question
Hello Geraint,
Wimpeys at Ffos-Las had a Cat 5130 face shovel first which was a field follow up machine and rumour had it they liked it so much they ordered a 5130 backactor.
I earned alot of overtime on those excavators when I worked for Finning at Cardiff and Llantrisant.
It was suited to the 777s but was to small for the 785s.
Regards from Canada,
Mark.

Re: CAT 5130 question
5ZL23 was the first 5130 "A" into the UK for Wimpey, the last "a" series machine to come in was 5ZL123.
Cobex ran one, Willie Grant mining had 2 i think (5ZL123 was ordered for Grant but think he went bust before it was delivered, remember it sat in the yard in kit form for a while before it was re allocated).
Wimpey ran a couple as said before, Tarmac and Merrimans had one i think (may have inherited this from one of the Leicester quarrys though, can't remember)

Re: CAT 5130 question
I've vague recollection that I read an article in Construction News that Tarmac had a large CAT mining excavator operating in their Tunstead (?) limestone quarry loading a very large Nordberg crusher at the quarry face.
