I have bought at 580D a couple of months ago. I have now moved a lot of earth, brics, wood ect. with my grabber and shovels.. I am very happy, that I bought this machine, but there seems to be at bit of a problem..:
It is rather weak, when I want to turn the undercarriage, it almost can´t move the crawlers i opposite directions, I often have to lift the end of the machine with the arm, whereafter it i very easy to turn the crawlers, if I turn the rest of the machine the other way with the arm..
When i drive with both of the crawlers in the same direction, it is quite strong, and doesent let a brickwall or a tree stand in it´s way, but both of my 16 month old children, crawls way faster than the Hymac..:o)
The arm is stron too and easily lifts the machine by pushing down, and also lifting materials ect. upwards. But if I have just lifted at tree or something, it takes a while for the machine to push down the bucket enough to lift the machine. When the arm is lifted, or the machine as well, the two major cylinders are dripping a lot.. I have´nt worried about that yet, I can live with it untill I get some time to look at it.
It leads me to think, that the pumps are strong, but the oil does´nt move quick enough, compared to an other "almost new machine"..;o)
To start troubleshooting, I thougt it might be time to change the hydraulic oil filter(s)? But where the .... do I find it/them??

Hello Rasmus,
All excavators struggle to counter-rotate their tracks, especialy in soft or sticky ground. It is both normal and good practice to lift the machine to help it round.
This reduces the stress and loading on travel motors, gearboxes and hydraulics.
It also increases track life and it cuts up the ground a great deal less.
I dont know the 580D, but there will be a suction filter in the hydeaulic tank and the return line filter will either be in the tank accessed through a plate on the top. Or in a cannister/cannisters on the return line immediately before it returns to the tank.
Hope this will be some help.
Fred

It sounds very much like our 580D. Personally I think it is partly age related design and partly age related wear. How tight have you got the tracks? Sometimes there can be a little delay in response of a ram and that might be possibly caused by a form of cavitation if that is the right word. This seems to happen when ram has moved by weight of the dipper or boom rather than by oil.

Perhaps Chris Mac can give an insight into how a refurbished machine behaves?
