Midi wheel excavator: TB175W snapped this morning

Post #1 by Gavin Phillips » Sat Oct 25, 2008 3:23 pm

Its probably not that big of a deal to most people but this is the first time I've managed to get a picture of a midi wheel excavator.

Not even that interesting, it was probably due to start work shortly after I snapped it. But for all/any who are interested, here it is!

Are these midi machines really more of an assett to a company over a conventional loader/backhoe?

I'll do my best!

Only other Takeuchi I have a picture of is this one: a TB014 mini excavator. Taken with my older camera, but still a half decent picture.

Machines built by the company aren't that rare, its just being in the right place at the right time! Unless you get lucky, they won't be left on site over night.

Takeuchi sure are not as common around here as Volvo, and to a slightly lesser extent Kubota.

i rolled one of those over at British Aerospaces site at Broughton,Chester. It was in an aircraft hanger right outside the safety officers office!.We put it on its feet again with a JCB 3C.No damage and straight back to work.

Hi Gavin
Where abouts did you take that picture ? It looks a bit like Gateshead or maybe Newcastle ?
I used to live there in the early 90's.

Newcastle  well spotted!

I'm usually around Newcastle early Saturday morning, taking regular trips to Wallsend to observe the dismantling of Swan Hunters and then floating around the city for a bit.

I looked up the company who hires out the TB175W machine, GE Plant Services; based in Billingham...hard to believe there isn't someone else with a midi wheel excavator that isn't closer than that...

Yeh Massive American parent company Genral Electric, have always been told they have a bottomless pit of money :dizzy: Not sure now though with the credit crunch and all that!!

I know they used to go around undercutting everyone on the hire rates

Hard to compete against the likes of them as a one man band

Hellens Plant has a few Daewoo Solar 55W-V's floating around, I don't recall seeing the Doosan name on it anywhere. I did also see a Amman Yanmar wheel excavator at one point, although what model and what plant hire, I do not recall.
