Fantastic post. Love the pictures of old machines, especially JCBs. Here are a few shots of an old girl still earning her keep near Hyden in out back West Australia.

Superb pic'c of one of my fav machines, spent many a happy hour wedged in behind the drivers seat of one of these way back in time. looks in great condition too, oh for a temperate climate. Thanks Mark

Re: JCB Excavators Old & New
I have to say there is something about the early tracked JCB ... to be honest i have never been in one, the nearest i got to it was the 5C and that was a great machine....
I agree with you William, total lack of red, but weren't the later 6D's all yellow ?
Love the air filter

Apologies if this has been covered before! Anybody know if there was a reason why early JCB 360's had the cab mounted on the right hand side?
My guess would be that was because the JCB 7 which was the first 360 they built was based on an American Warner & Swasey design and the latter models all seamed to follow suite including; 5C, 6C, 6D, 7B, 7C, 8C and 8D.
From the outside appearance only the 5C and 7B above looked different to the original JCB 7, I would guess it would of been the early 80's when the cab changed to the left hand side?
Jeremy
Good to see the JCB 8D getting a mention Jeremy, I had one new in about 1974 when I worked for Phillips Plant Contractors. It was a beautiful machine to work with once it has loosened up a bit from new.
I've searched for photos of one, I've contacted the JCB Archives & short of coming up with a picture of a 7C I've had no luck, they didn't even have a record of the machine at all which I found hard to believe. I'd be great if someone could find a phohot of an 8D & post it on here.

It was ME Martyn. Thank you very much for posting the picture of the JCB 8D IGH, I'm so pleased to have come on here tonight & found this photo. I'd love any more if people have them around.
