Ian
Yes Ian and Pete it's a Perkins V8 fitted with a turbo; must say I'd never realized that they was a version ever fitted with a turbo until I saw this one, I can remember them from being a kid fitted into Dodge trucks and Ford D Series after the poor qulaity issues with the Cummins V8 504 engines.
Craig that one was flying, somehow I don't think Andrews appliance will be taking off like that one.

Re: Hymac 690
Nothing to report today as I was unable to attend due to circumstances beyond my control; in my mind there is a half cocked plan to cure the diesel leaks, run up the engine and check the turbo is okay, then fabricate an exhaust system, then change the hydraulic oil and filter, perhaps the real work can start then.

Pete, the weather has been crap the last two weeks I've been up there but I suppose this is to be expected at this time of year, at least there should be no more water shortages, it does make working on machines outside much harder though.

Re: Hymac 690
Nowt to report as once again I have been unable to attend due to circumstances beyond my control; at least I got a 90 degree section of exhaust pipe ready to modify to fit on the turbo, once I have a good 'gas proof' fit for it then I can get on with building a new exhaust system for the machine. When I next get up there, the plan is to try and fix the remaining derv leaks and run the 580BT and Poclain as they have both stood for a month or so now.

Re: Hymac 690
Sods law applies to this weeks visit it threw it down with rain for most of the day so apart from getting to run up the 580BT I accomplished nothing
This is more than likely my last visit for the year; with my old job I would usually book a days holiday off work on a Thursday so I could get up to my machines, unfortunately I was made redundant last December, that is how I've managed to make it on most Thursdays this year. I have a new job and am due to start next Monday, at 61 that's not bad going considering I thought I'd been thrown on the scrapheap of life.
Will just have to see how things go with my new role and see if I can get any Thursdays off.

Re: Hymac 690
Well I finally managed to get up to my machines last Thursday; the plan was simple which was to run up the Poclain and the Hy-mac 580BT both of which had flat batteries, once that had been sorted my next plan was to run up the 690.
I put a battery on her and she cracked right up no problem, this was the first run since I managed to cobble together a half sensible turbo from the three that I had. The turbo was fine although she is still putting oil out of the exhaust, one other issue a diesel leak which I now know exactly what that is so I can sort that out, so some minor progress.
