Hi Andy you mat have located the noisy undercarriage problem; now you have the track off it would not hurt to look inside the track drive gearbox, the cover should simply unbolt and you can take a look inside. Yes your hydraulic oil level sounds to me as though it is too low; there should be a dipstick on the tank, I will try and see if I have a photo that could help you locate it but it will not be tonight as I have other plans for this evening.
Best of luck.

Hi Andy; here is some info from the 580B workshop manual, this gives the hydraulic oil capacity and shows you where to locate the dipstick which is no3 on the drawing.
If you need any more info from the manual just ask; if it's in the book I will scan it for you.

A few hours of work in daylight.

The bearing holder was stuck quite tight, pulled the thread on several screws when I was pushing it out. But with a jumper it resolved.
It was not much left of the bearing behind it. The axis seems to be okej though.

The outer race of the bearing was stuck quite tight in the bearing holder, but some welding seemed to cure that issue.

Now i was very curious to check the gearbox. The cap over the gearbox seemed to never had been open since the birth of christ. I pulled the head of every screw. A good surprise though was that all the gear and bearings in there seemed to be in pretty good shape. But it was not much of oil in there.
Just some brown water mixed with oil at the bottom.

Now i need one spherical bearing in this dimension. Jeremy do you have the parts list and serial number for this bearing?

Looks like you got there just in time. Once a bearing really collapses the gears can climb over one another and do untold damage.

Andy this is a scan from the parts manual that only quotes Hymac numbers; the bearing appears to be the same for each side, looks like no3 in the parts breakdown, my advice would be to look at the bearing on the opposite side of the shaft, that should be the same and take both bearings to a local bearing/drives supplier they will be able to match up for you if not let me know and I will try to see what I can source over here for you.
