Hi All i have just get myself a 1985 C registration JCB 3CX and cant seem to move the back actor along the channels , it doesnt look like its moved in a very long time, i dont have a manual for the machine so not sure what you have to press or hold for it to release before pushing along.
Also if someone could get me a download link for the service manual i would be very grateful.
Many thanks in advance Dean

Hi Dean and welcome to CMN there is a download section on here if you click on downloads you should be able to first select the manufacturer then the model that you want.

Re: Jcb 3cx 1985 back Actor movement
If your machine is a 1986 it could be a Project 6. Does the shuttle lever come out of the side of the steering column and go up to the steering wheel, if so it has the Borg Warner shuttle, or if it has a forwards/ backwards lever on the left hand side of the steering wheel similar to the wiper one on the right then it is an electronic shuttle, I am going to guess its the earlier Borg Warner type if it's an 86 machine. There are a few posts on here regarding them i know as i had an 86 2wd one. If you are servicing it please make sure you do not use brake fluid in the servo resevoir you must use a light grade hydraulic oil otherwise you will wreck the seals in the system. It sounds like the clamps on your sideshift are stuck through lack of use, there is a little lever on the right hand side of the rear control consul this is the one that you push forward then bring the boom up straight do not slew it for a few seconds i presume this is to get the weight of the back is to pull against the clamps then you do the usual move the bucket to the side of the machine etc etc.

Glad you managed to get the sideshift to work, your machine looks pretty tidy, i would say it's a 1985/6 model thre were three types of extending dipper and your one has the second version fitted. It will be the Borg Warner type shuttle top.
