Kubota kx91-2 Tracking Issues

Post #1 by vanwarren » Sat Apr 18, 2015 9:44 pm

I am having problems with the Kubota Kx91-2. It tracks OK forwards and backwards in a straight Line, but when attempting to turn, the left track struggles to respond and the machine is dragged around by the right track. When pushing or pulling the left lever on its own there is barely any movement whilst the right lever on its own gets a good response. As already stated both levers together work well. When purchased I noticed the two tracking levers did not line up when idle, subsequent adjustment to bring them level has made no difference. I have cleaned all debris away from under the floor and there are no obstructions to the linkages etc. I would appreciate any suggestions that might point me in the right direction.

Hi wiggy, thanks for the suggestion. I had kind of eliminated the motor as it appears to work fine when both levers are used to go forward or backward, but I will check it out.

normaly lazy motors will sort of get draged along when strait tracking may b just lag slightly behind involving slight course corections
its only when they turn they work hard
its hard to guess what it is with out a dose of looking at and sticking diagnostic gauges on
it could b a lazy pump 2
good luck

Hi wiggy from what you say it might well be the motor. Seems I need some diagnostic equipment gauges etc. Could you recommend what I would need. I have a workshop manual for the machine.

you have asked the one question that is hard to answer and i garantee what ever you buy you will nead the oposite
there are some quite comprehensive kits out in internet land
but unless you are going to use it every day/week realistikly save your money
and either live with the fault till it develops further to the point its ovious or use a bit of money you would have spent and get a local expert in who has the kit to diagnose fault for you
if you can find one that likes pound notes they shuld be able to give it a good diagnostic check in an hr or 2

the only other way is buy all the kit and then sell on when you have sussed out
sorry i cant help you more but im loathed to recomend any thing as i say what ever you get chances are it will be the other things you nead

are any of the other functions on the machine any slower like the bucket or arm when digging vanwarren? it depends how much it annoys you or how far you want to go with the problem. if you swap the hoses going into the centre joint. left motor to right motor side and vise versa and it changes the problem it would point towards the travel motor. if not it could be control valve or pump. or even centre joint

Hi everyone. I decided to take a low tech approach. I invested in some flexible hoses to replace the metal pipes going to the control valve left and right drive. After swopping the left for the right, the left track now works fine(using the right forward lever). If I understand it correctly this would put the problem in the control valve. Now I need some advice on how to go about rectifying the problem with the valve. Can someone also tell me if there are special spanners for removing the hydraulic pipes from the control valve. (A nightmare with ordinary spanners)

a night mare with any spaners
there are some special spaners about but my advice is to just make ur own
get ring open ender spaners and cut down bend ect to fit
on ring end cut a slot so it will just fit over hydraulic pipe slide on then up2 fitting u may end up litarly 1 notch at a time
there wil also be a sequence that makes life easyer but i couldnt tell you what it is jusyt trial and error
1 word of advice power wash every thing 1st then walk away let dry mark pipes up , number them ect take pics ect
b4 u even think of spliting pipes of it makes it easyer to put back 2gether
also ull b suprised what you can end up removing to get at the pipes you want

and i cant enfisise enogh the nead to keep every thing clean
when you have power waqshed start again as there will still be muck around
if you can use a steam cleaner
if its cold water use plenty of degreaser a kitchen triger spray is a wonderfull thing for putting on

lastly good luck u will no dought nead it , enjoy skining ur knuckles:)

thanks for the tips wiggy. I have made my own set of spanners following your suggestions, makes it a bit easier, but still a pain. By swapping left and right drive throughout the system I have narrowed it down to the hydraulic piston pump bolted to and driven by the engine. I am now having trouble locating a replacement unit. It is a Nachi Fujikoshi Variable Displacement Pump. Model: PVD-28-36L3DPS-8G-4117F. Can anyone out there help to locate this pump?
