Those 8080's are nice! Got a full size JS cab and are a real nice small excavator. If i was to go with any machine it would have to be a Volvo EC700B. I just love the look of them they are awesome! But if it had to be a regular construction site (housing and schools etc.) it would have to be a JCB JS220 or a EC210CL.

That's tough because there's more than one I'd like to give a good try out
As you know I work in groundwork on construction sites, sometimes in tight spaces, so a machine I'd be really interested in trying out is the Komatsu PC138US-8, I'd also like to try it's normal tailswing counterpart the PC130-8. Another one which looks a good machine for groundwork is the Takeuchi TB1140. Of course I'd like to see what the new Doosan DX140LC is like compared to my solar 140LCV.
If we're talking just for fun, then I wouldn't mind a go in a Komatsu PC800LC, but it's the 13/14 tonne machines that interest me the most as that's the size I operate and which I find to be the most useful for my work

Check out the review of the PC138US-8 in the April edition of Earthmovers magazine. I'd go for the metal tracked version with no blade like the one in the magazine. The only thing that I'm not sure about is just how roomy the cab would be as it's a slightly smaller cab than the normal dash 8 machines have.

Re: Which excavator for a weeks trail ?
I have to agree the Komatsu PC138US-8 is a fantastic piece of kit and given the choice it would be my prefered option, As documented on the forum elsewhere I very nearly bought one of these but Komatsu finance pulled out at the last minute which in hindsight with the current economic climat was a blessing in disguise !!
I had about 8 months on the dash 7 version back along and it was great not to have to worry about the rear end in tight spots because wherever you can track into you can slew
So Ben if you can somehow get a chance to spend some time in one go for it, having said that it's not that easy to get the dealers to let you have a demo machine unless they think they are going to get a sale at the end of it !!
Heres a pic of the 138 I spent time on
