it does not actually power slide you release the lock mechanism and pull /push the arm in out
many have been welded up

As stated, release the lock, (rocker switch on dash IIRC), (on the 814 a warning buzzer sounds whilst lock is disengaged), push or pull arm to required position, then lock again.
I heard a story at JCB OTS about someone who tried to be clever. Lowered the arm into the excavation, so boom was at a downward angle, then released the powerslide lock. Boom slid with such force it knocked the stop plate off, then promptly snapped all the hoses. Luckily no-one was in the excavation at the time.

Had a bit of a play on her yesterday and filled her to the neck with diesel. Got an exhaust fitted but she still sounds a powerful demon I'ts amazing how much you notice the strain of the mechanical levers when used to lazy servos I still love it - Hymac 580D injector pump and injectors all back and refurbished so wont be long now till the 805B is up for the paintshop, after the Hymac of course.
