Pipeline Project

Post #1 by rob » Wed Jun 03, 2009 12:52 pm

I came across this pipeline project and various excavator models at the weekend which maybe of interest so took some pictures.

Excellent pics Rob! Thanks for posting.

I never knew that 2-piece booms were a legal requirement.

O & Ks were popular in the UK at one time too, especially in opencast mining, from the smallest to the largest machines. The RH30 was the most popular machine in its weight class in opencast.

Glad you enjoyed them Dave!

The attachment must not protrude beyond 3.5m from the centre line of the machine so that is why 2-piece booms must be specified here.

Yes I’m a bit more familiar with O&K’s larger models myself than the smaller range that was integrated into New Holland. In Germany there aren’t many models above the RH40 and the largest is an RH120E used to extract virgin Jurassic limestone.

Opencast mining for brown coal does take place (see attached pictures) but the overburden offers little resistance so bucket wheel excavators are the norm.

It is the first attachment of that type that I've seen. It has a hook on the end and gives a little extra reach when lowering the pipes.
