Banked steel coil trains

Post #1 by martyn williams » Fri Jun 17, 2011 2:26 pm

Found this bit of youtube footage of a steel train being banked at Bromsgrove .This train starts off at Margam.Because of its weight, upto 2000tonnes,it requires a 3300 hp loco to give it a shove up the 1 in 37 incline. Both locos are flat out till it gets to the top.The rear loco comes off, head back down the incline and waits for the next train. This route is used to test out locos after maintenance also Stormy bank in South Wales.
This method has been used for many years right from steam days.
