This type of locomotive is a true classic machine.
Its a Class 40 powered by a V16 English Electric diesel rated at 2000 hp,weight 130 ton, max speed 90mph
You can see how cramped it is in the engine room also vey hot and noisey.This guy must be deaf,wearing no ear protectors.

I was very much involved with this operation in 2000.Very interesting work,some great guys worked these trains.
The only great train robbery these days are the high fares

brill mate, the 40,s were superb, not that we saw much of them in south wales, its all pacers , which should be cut up,or 150,sit would be nice to see loco hauled again,

I know what you mean Ian,not much fun these days.I used to look after the Rhymney class 37's.Now I just look after the class 60 and 66's and sometimes a 67. Only worked on a 40 once,we had 25's 31's 47's 46's and 50's to work on in the good old days.The 138 ton 46's used to giv the track a pounding.

nice 37, i know 37425, was used on rhymney route, also on royal welsh run, was dissappointed last time went up there, 150 dmu were used
