do you know what exactly are they doing with the holes?

Building sand castles  no they are trial holes Sam, they are dug to see what the ground is like a few metres down, they take soil samples away and test the samples to see what foundations are needed

Martyn

ahh thanks Martyn... it would be a great way to build sand castles though

Had a drive past today to see what was going on, sadly everything was parked up!

Are they placing any rock armour on this job?

Sadly not Mike , they're ripping out the old sea wall and replacing it with a new stepped higher one with a piled toe, so no barges from Norway, just lots of concrete some precast.
The piling gear has arrived , sadly not a NCK Ajax crawler crane with a hammer  like last time in the the 1980s, but a big 360deg excavator with hydraulic pile driver .

More from talented young Nathan (haven't took a single pic myself due to dreaded work but Nathan really has this job covered ).You Tube Time Lapse Demolition machine arriving , he's setting out excavator mats on the pavement-

Third pic -I've never seen this before -I assume fall arrest bags for unloading trucks .

now they are what you call fall protection all we get up here is some shitty white bags with a few polystyrene balls in them......except they always get left in the worst place and rats make nests inthem so they are next to useless if they are ever needed

that fall protection looks a bit time consuming and awkward, when i was doing work experience at the QE site in birmingham they had metal structures which the lorry would pull up along side, then they had like seatbelt kind of things attatched to them so the worker could walk around freely but if they fell the cable attached to them would pull tight and catch them

Yeh it is time consuming especially if you have a officious site manager watching over you making sure your doing it properly! Robinson construction have 2 poles that attach to each end of the flat bed trailor and then they string a wire over load and workers just wear a harness and lanyard to make sure they dont fall off!
