A new house is being borne.

Post #1 by Robban_C » Sun Oct 28, 2007 11:03 pm

I´m currently doing a footing/foundation (or whatever you call it) for a house. It´s near to my home, I measured the distance a few days ago. It´s 2,5 km:s from home.

The house has 137 m2 footing area (that´ll be about 1472 sq feet if I did my math lessons the way I should have). The site is almost flat, has had some trees so there are quite a lot of stumps, some of them quite big.

I have had some extra personell hired to make the job in time. My father has been hired mostly for driving my excavator and a friend of a friend has been hired about 1 1/2 day to help me with some job that takes two men doing it.
The job has two weeks when the last one of those pics where shot. In another half week (wednesday) the concrete job (or whatever you call it) will be done.
Two and a half week from virgin ground to a complete foundation! And that´s with a 3,5 ton machine.

Some more pictures.
I don´t have pics from every day since the job has been done in such a hurry. I´ve had to prioritize the job over everything else.

Let´s start with some backfilling around the house.

There where lots of branches and twigs left from the trees. They where shred to wood chips by this machine.
A Rottne forwarder with a shredding machine on. The shredder (that´s probably the wrong word) has its own engine. It is powered by a Volvo 12 liter engine wit an output of 420 hp! A terrible noice and big trees where shredded to wood chips in only a few seconds.
Notice the dust coming out of the rear of the shredder.
According to the driver it took him about 15 minutes to fill it with a load of chips. And two loads almost filled a big hook lift container.

No it isn´t me. It´s a 26 years older me. My father. I hired him as an extra driver while I was acting a banksman/grade checker, setting up the footing, isolation, heating hoses etc.

And what a story:
The concrete guys was ordered to come 07:00 wednesday. Tuesday 15:45 the Quality Checking guy came to get a last look before the concrete. "Nice job but should the reinforcements look like this?". It turned out that we had done the reinforcements exactly by the blue prints but I had got wrong blue prints.
I sent my father with my tractor to get some more reinforcement nets and I picked up my cellular phone to find more people to work with us during the evening. We had to work with hand held torches, working lights on the excavator and 2 x 500 watts working lights. At 21:45 everything was corrected.
I also caught a cold since I didn´t care about warm clothes, sweat etc. Getting the work done was all I cared about.
Caughing, freezing and sneezing is my favourite right now. But the job was done in time.

More pictures are coming.

The carpenter that is going to build the house complained about the mud around the house. It was to messy for him to walk in. :dizzy:
So I had to put 25 extra tonnes of crushed rock 0-30 around the house. My big tractor bucket came to use again.
Carrying 25 tonnes around the house on wet mud made a real mess of the place. It´s so messy that the birds are actually flying upside down so they don´t have to see the mess.
