A46 Widening...

Post #1 by ben_uk » Mon Jun 08, 2009 6:13 pm

Hello,

Thought i would inform you all the A46 widening project is getting underway now, big job lasting a few years i think.

I drive down the A46 everyday and today saw there has been 2 CAT ADT's from John Jones delivered to the site. Also a komatsu dozer. Unsure of the models

Theres been alot of equiment there now for the past few months, JCB, Volvo and CAT 360's around 22 tons.

So if anyones around Nott's/Newark area wants to have a look or get some pics sure you will be worth a visit.

Will let you know of any other developments, looks like its going to start full swing soon :)

Ben

yeh Im going down when the big 360's start shifting the muck...The Cat ADT's are almost certainly 740's as a cat fitter told me the other day that there is going to be 26 delivered straight away but that figure will rise to about 30-32....He also said that John Jones will have Stokey and Wardles sub contracting to them aswell. Is there any good vantage point to stop at and get phoito's mate?

Ben it sound to me like they were digging test pits, They dig down a few metres normally and a guy takes samples of th muck from levels in the muck and records them....they normally take a small amount away with them aswell for testing. Its all to do with how deep they have to cut the muck to get a suitable strength muck to build on.....would be a very costly affair if the road began to sink a few years down the line due to poor soil condition's!

Justin,

I know the leicester and chesterfield branches of Finning are supplying the 30 new trucks....i would imagine that the rest of them would be hired in? I know John Jones has a fair few already and stokey and wardles both have 40 tonners!

90 ADT's will be an impressive sight, please do keep us informed when the big toys arrive!
There must be a fair amount of muck to shift for that number of machines, will be interested to see what dozers & graders they use as well!

Look forward to seeing some pics !

Regards

Michael
