Saturday morning job

This morning I done a little job reinstating a driveway after some extensive drainage work had been carried out, prior to today someone had been doing the work with a JCB and had left it in a bit of a mess.

Today I graded off the stone and next week they are going to put in some path edgings and then it will be topped with clean stones/chippings which will finish the job off nicely.

I was using a hired in Takeuchi TB145 and Bomag 80 roller

Just to make sure I haven´t misunderstood:
The JCB guy didn´t make a satisfying job?

I have seen that here as well and I have taken over (that´s probably not an English way of saying?) a few jobs where someone else has started doing a terrible work.
I have also seen severals workplaces where the job isn´t finished from my point of view such as house drainages where the area around the house looks like the surface of the moon all over. But the guys who did the job has disappeared and just sent the invoice.
The main problem here is that the owners of the house usually don´t understand that the job isn´t ready, they think that it should be that way and that it´s the owners job to manually "grade" (dont know the right word, can someone translate "planera"?) the last 40 cm of height and 3 m of width correctly around the house.

In Sweden there´s a saying about "pride in what you work with" or "work pride" ("yrkesstolthet" for our Swedish members). It seems that some machinists have a total lack of that. There´s nothing else but earning quick money in their heads. Off course we all want to earn as much money as possible but I also want to be proud of what I do.

A good result gives me a good sleep.
Nick, I guess that you slept well after the job above?

What can we do to:
1. "Teach" the house owners that they shouldn´t accept such miserable jobs?
2. Convince them that we do the job until it´s ready?

There´s a big difference in "plan" as in grading with an excavator and "plan" as in planning your schedule. So I don´t know if the translation is the same.
