Post #1 by argie » Sun Aug 31, 2008 10:52 am

Itook these photos in the late 80's early 90's on a stretch of new road around the market town of Mold in North Wales. The 3 mile job was undertaken by Deeside firm, Floods plant hire.

Hi Nick,
Floods ceased trading around the end of this job! Not too sure on the exact circumstances but rumours abound about late payment from this job finished them.

Ahh!! Same old S**t :x :x

Been there myself its crap!! Its about time all this late payment stuff was put to an end by the government, I can't go down to Tescos and get £160 worth of grocerys and say I will pay you in a months time when I can afford it!!

As far as I can see there are a lot of rogues out there who are trying to play with the big boys but quite simply have not got the money to back it up!! But the law seems to be on the shisters side!

Right rant over  ;)

Nick :P

Ace photos, I see the 215D LC belonged to Jennings Plant Services (JPS) of Colwyn Bay, who managed to survive the collapse of their sister firm DJ Construction a few years back.

Nick,
Know what you mean about the late payment thing, I too have been there myself when I ran my own company, the company I work for at the moment do the same thing and it's so frustrating having subbies come to you asking where is their cheque :x
IBH,
JPS still going strong although the fleet has been scaled down in recent years and they now concentrate on the work that DJ's did :o It seems that as DJ went under JPS came to the fore and took over where DJ left off!
Floods were more of a general muckshifter rather than the full civil engineering company needed to do this type of project and consequently subbed the drainage and infrastructure works out and concentrated on the muckaway.

Your correct Paul.this job did bust them.Good pic of the D8.They had two of those 68A's.About this time I had a D8 on hire to D.Morgan Plant at Chester buisiness park.Jones's had a couple of PC300's and some Moxeys there too.I was working with Profbreak's TS24B's and their D9H.There were various TS24's and D9's on this job.I had spoken to Derick Flood about this job before he started it looking for work for my D8's.It's a good job he turned me down in hindsight!.
One of those D9N's in your pic looks like it belonged to Tarmac. The rops bar looks to be their colour.

Spot on Nicky, Tarmac had one of the 9's on site. Stokey had the other. I don't think Floods had anything big enough to cope with the job at that time.
I take it Chester business park was a big muckshift? You could never see anything from the A55 or as you went into Chester :(
